Parasitic Loss

Approximate numbers: I used to have these numbers written down somewhere. There are some valve body changes that can help reduce hp loss as well.

Powerglide: 20-25 hp

TH350: 30 hp

200R4: 40 hp <---A well built one will do you fine!

TH400: 45-50 hp

700R4: I can't find anything definitive. I've heard people claim 50hp

That could be some of the reason for my slower times. I used to run a 12.75 with a turbo 350 with slicks and I made a few changes to my 383 (went full roller and made a cam change) so I expected to be quicker. I did swap the turbo 350 for a Phoenix Transmissions 700R4 and was only running Nitto 555R's and the best time I could run was a [email protected]

The 700R4 has an aggressive 1st gear ratio. I would of thought the times would be closer. There are of course many other different factors like DA and track conditions that could explain the difference.

You mentioned that you made changes in your engine set up and "think" it would be faster. It would be great if you had some dyno runs to show the different stages of a transmission swap and engine upgrades.

There is of course the possibility that the 700R4 is slipping badly. This could be because of a mis adjusted cable or wear in the transmission itself. Check those out.

I had a 200R4 behind my 455 powered 1983 Olds 442. I was one happy camper until the transmission went south in about a month and I had to go with a Turbo 400 to keep from breaking stuff. Today a 200R4 and 700R4 can be built to take alot more.

It should be same as a 350 on the higher end, not as much as the 400.
