Cadillac Converj concept

The concept car is based on the same plug-in technology as the Chevrolet Volt, which is being branded as Voltec. It can go 40 miles on electric power alone, with a small gasoline engine to extend the range. It joins a growing number of proposed luxury plug-in hybrids.

Bob Lutz, GM's vice chairman of Global Product Development, said the Converj concept is a "logical extension of our plan to reinvent the automobile." It clearly shows what a Cadillac electric vehicle could look like, and clearly indicates that global luxury customers can have a car that has both strong design and electric propulsion with a total range of hundreds of anxiety-free miles."

Chevrolet Spark

Formerly known as the Beat, when it was unveiled as a concept car in 2007, the Chevrolet Spark is expected to deliver 40 miles per gallon.

"Chevrolet Spark will bring great style, roominess and versatility to the segment of extremely fuel-efficient small cars in the U.S.," said Troy Clarke, president of GM North America. "The decision to add the Spark to Chevrolet's portfolio reflects the brand's commitment to being a fuel-efficiency leader in the industry."

The Spark is to make its world debut in full production form at the Geneva Auto Show in March. Sales begin in Europe in the first quarter of 2010, followed by other markets around the globe.

Chevy Orlando

The compact minivan, which seats seven, will go into production in 2011.

Fuel-efficient power for the Orlando show car comes from a 2.0-liter turbo-diesel that generates 150 horsepower and a strong 235 foot-pounds of torque. The car-based architecture of the Orlando -- the hallmark of a true crossover -- further contributes to the vehicle's efficiency with lower overall mass and better aerodynamics.

Inside, the five-door Orlando is designed to meet the needs of families and those who need plenty of seating capacity. It has reconfigurable, theater-style seating in three rows that comfortably accommodate up to seven occupants. The seats in rows two and three fold flat into the floor when load carrying becomes a priority.
