So I'm confused. I went and did an "order" on Monday that went into Autobook. I was told that by Thursday it would be put into the workbench and I'd be given an order number. Now I'm being told that because of allocations and ordering constraints, my order won't be official until 4/16. Other dealerships around here are telling me they are "not allowed to order". I think it's because of the May 6th thing that's going to happen - they are misunderstanding not being able to order with not being able to deliver. It seems from what I read on here that they should be able to order still. In any case, if my order doesn't become official -when does that mean I'll get my car?? September?!?

If a dealer doesn't have any allocations left then they will gladly take your order but won't be able to submit it all the way. As far as when you could get the car at this time no one really knows. Figure something like 13,000+ pre-orders and I've heard numbers between 5,000 - 6,000 GM dealers who are all getting a V6 car. If the plant can produce 450 cars a day then it will be just over 42 working days until the pre-orders and dealer cars are done. Reality says it will be somewhat longer because the plant has to get up to full speed.

So each dealership is only allowed a certain number of allocations per dealership or per vehicle? Mine is telling me that they got allocations for the Tahoe and Suburban but none for the Camaro today....

It would seem that if GM wants this car to be sold/ordered that they need to let these dealerships take these orders.....

Original orders were allocated back in October...those orders need to get built first. Your dealer should be able to take your order, but likely you'll be waiting until sept/october or so. Unless you can find a dealer who had an order cancelled, or a dealer that'll sell the demo car that they'll be getting by may.

Just my .02.

Let's start from scratch...

BACK IN OCTOBER the dealer got a "production guide number". He did; every dealer did. That told him how many TOTAL Camaros his dealership would get through Q3 (October 2009). His consensus (monthly) tells him how many, of the PGN total, he can order "now" (as GM allocates them over the month to him) for next month's production. Each WEEK there is a constraint report listing (or not) restrictions on paint (CGM), trim levels, (V6, until today), etc.
