What is the best cam that will work for stock 5.7 heads?
Its a daily driver so driveblitly matters for now.

As long as you're not talking the HEMI in your Charger, Octane has suggested a good one. If you're talking the HEMI, you'll have to replace valve springs and all kinds of stuff to change the cam. Alot of people are putting the Cam from the 6.1 SRTs in the 5.7s, but they're also buying the valve springs and stuff.

Did you buy a LS1 car?

If it were me I would still do springs and hardened pushrods. Some comp 918s should work well for springs and some stock length pushrods.
The cam Octane suggested sounds good. Also a small stall would help out and still be dd-able.

98-2002 are the same car SS and Z28 as far as power/drivetrain goes.

01-02 have better PCMs but have smaller injectors and cams but come with LS6 intake I think.

1998 is a one-off weird PCM.
But since it's SOM.. then it's a 2001 or 2002 anyway. :)

I almost sold my Camaro to buy a SOM SS.
Frickin awesome color.
Yes the 98 PCM has half the bits of the 99+

I did a little reading I was wrong on a few things and I think I got the PCM mixed up with something else

If my source is right:

98 28lb injectors
99 26lb injectors
00 26lb injectors
01 28lb injectors
02 28lb injectors

I think I was thinking about EGR

98 EGR and AIR
99 EGR and AIR
00 EGR only
01 none
02 none

Yes I believe that is accurate for injector sizes.

And you're right, the 01-02 do indeed have LS6 intakes.

01-02s react the best to a cam swap because they have the smallest stock cam.
It's 196/197 .467./478 117LSA or something rediculously tiny like that.
....even a '04 Z06 cam will have a gain of 35+hp and it'll sound basically stock.

:eek:that much from just a cam swap?.how much power difference is that versus the 196/197.467....
