after hitting up the mid-ohio track in the car yesterday(which, by the way was freaking AMAZING!), i want to use my stock wheels and put some race tires on it. what is the largest size(width) tire i can fit on there? i would like to do something like a 285-295 rear and a 255/265 front. any help would be great!

I put 305's on the rear but that would be more than I would want to do road racing with them only straight line.....

so a 305 fits the stock rear 20"?

next question i have..... if give the choice what would anyone choose? example: the smaller, yet more track worthy Bridgestone Potenza RE070R R2 RFT 285/35/20 rear and 255/40/20 front Extreme performance tire or ........ the wider Bridgestone Potenza RE050A Pole Position 305/35/20 rear and possible 275/35 or 30/20 front Max performance tire?

its almost like, you can get an great 20" tire for the track but you cant get it in a larger width than a 285. any bigger and you sacrifice tread pattern and handling.

Oh yeah here are a couple of pics I drove them to another c5 fest this past April....
4 rear wheels on the car... 275's on the front and 305's on the rear.

I am catching up on old messages so I hope you are still around to read this. I have been to the track the past 2 years with serious traction problems. This summer I plan to get a pair of replica rear wheels, stock size, with TPMS and Nitto 05's in the stock size. I like the comparison you did with the stock tires and the 305's.

Sooo, how do the 305's look and feel on the stock 9" wheel?

BTW, best time on my Camaro is 13.35 and my Yamaha Vstar 1300 ran a 13.46 on my 1st time at the track. Needless to say, I'll be taking both the car and bike to the track this year.

never would have thought that 305 would fit on the back and the 275 on the front. thats good to hear though. what series side wall is it? 30 rear 35 front?

The chart that NineBall put out months ago pretty much showed what the max for the stock wheels would be.

This is the chart he posted:

I will list tire sizes that are similar to OEM diameter, as this should help tire shoppers. The heights shown below are approximate,
based on calculations. Refer to tire manufacturer's specs for the most accurate tire diameters. We recommend you stay within 0.5" (plus or minus)
of the factory tire height in order to maintain accurate vehicle systems. This gives you an acceptable range of 28.2-29.3" diameters.
Wheel widths shown are recommended, and only serve as a suggestion for proper fitment/appearance/performance.

Factory 2010 Camaro SS tires

those sizes are just to keep it in line with the speedo. not really geared toward performance at a track. for example, if i were running 19" wheels all the way around, i would want a 295/35/19. i understand the chart, but its geared more toward street use than track use. thank you though, for posting. may help other people looking for the answers.

i wonder why they dont have 305/30/22 up there? thats what im running on my car now.

The only thing I ran was Drag radials when I had my Camaro on the street. Never had any trouble with them. Even delivered pizza with them on my car. Worked great in the rain at any speed.

What kinds of tracks are we talking here, Drag strip or Road course, Auto Cross? I believe on a road course or Auto cross, the low profile tires would be good but for launch on a drag strip you want a bigger side wall. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Is there a good all around tire?
